I travel all over the world. Learning how to make malas in Bodhgaya in 2006, this has become my profession, to many peoples amazement especially ASIANS of any persuasion! So when Tenzing was told that I make malas he was curious to meet me but I was on the road. Upon my return I heard of this monk named Tsewang who wanted to meet me, this person told me a little about him and said that now he was living on the island where I do (Saltspring Island) and married to Kirsty Barclay.
At our islands Saturday market I was approached by a Tibetan man and introduced to him as Tsewang. A kinship was clear between us and he later came by to bless my land with his presence. Looking over the malas that I make he was thrilled to see the art alive in the West! and that the land where the malas are made is covered in prayer flags from Bodhgaya. He laughed when he saw where the malas were being made and the setting - the shop was straight out of India, small and functional.
Again I was away when he passed and upon my return I learned that he had left his body. There was no sadness, just the knowing that with such power that he possesses that merely shedding his mortal body meant nothing to his powerful Soul. Now nearing the end of 2010 he has likely returned into another body and will be seen again for his talents.
May he continue to cultivate his talents in his next life and move people to find their True Selves as he did while here on Saltspring Island, BC.
He lives on through the CDs here. May you be so fortunate as to hear his beautiful voice and benefit from the millenia of chants and knowledge that flow through the chants and music that Grace his lips.
