OM MANI PADME HUNG (pronounced Hoong) means "Hail the jewel is in the Lotus" and figuratively means that the jewel is within us...to embrace the jewel and walk the path. It is a six syllable mantra of Avlokiteswara; the one who is invoked as the saviour and the protector of danger.
One who recites this mantra will be saved from all dangers. This mantra is found widely throughout the Mahayana tradition.
